Fruition!

Image
I made a model boat totally out of Fronds. The boat actually came out quite well. With that being said, seeing it float will  make me even happier because if this model floats, then the actual boat I'm working on definitely will float because it's mostly made of Fronds. Adding the "Noodles" and bubble tubes was me going overboard. It will show that it wasn't necessary for me to add the extras during the early stage of building the boat. Building a model isn't the same as building an actual boat, but I am testing how the Fronds behave in water.  I will be adding the platform to the Mobile Boat Cradle in the next few days. I used screws and nuts to secure the joints. So far the cradle is way more sturdier than when I tried using clamps. Right now I'm learning while I'm doing. Book knowledge can only go as far as the pages you read until you apply some of the techniques. Right now it's all basic, since this is my first boat building project.

Hastingly!

I'm building the Auset Fronds model differently. I was making it more complicated than necessary. Now I'm just using wood glue and jumper cable clamps to hold the pieces in place, after applying the glue. I'm very happy with building the model this way. I already glued two pieces together, and the glued dried clear and the fronds that were glued together was well bonded. I'd like to find some more clamps, but I think the 5 I have is enough to work with. I really want to finish building this model because I need to test how the Fronds float in the water by themselves. I want the next boat to be built with all Fronds without the "Noddles". I know that I should have made a model before attempting to build an\ actual boat. I actually been drawing  boat design ideas for years. I just got tired of my ideas not taking physical form. My impatience creeps up on me when seeing things through. Regardless of being anxious to create anything, it's better to do things

First Wheel!

I was able to drill 2 holes on the Mobile Boat Cradle. Making the hole wasn't hard, enlthenarging the holes was a different story. I figured out how to make the hole bigger by using the drill to file down the sides within the hole. If it was wood I'd be able to enlarge the holes in s matter of seconds. I have 2 more holes to make and 3 holes to enlarge. If I had the right tools, it probably wouldn't take me so long to do such a menial thing. I just have to work with the resources I have until I can get better tools. I'll put another wheel on tomorrow.

Enforced Reinforcements!

I brought the frame of the Mobile Boat Cradle inside the house  and managed to put  the clamps on. They still need to be tight enough for the frame to withstand the pressures that's going to be placed on it. That includes not coming apart when being bounced around while being moved from one place to another. Even  falling from this upright position, it must stay intact.
