Scrimp And Save!

Image
I found this perfectly intact frond on the sidewalk when I was walking to the store yesterday. I passed by it several times and decided to pick it up even though I still have a lot of fronds. This frond was cut or it fell from the tree with it's fishtail still intact. The Auset Fronds seem to say don't spend any money on materials that you can readily get for free.

I've Been Busy

Here's a new addition to my Novelty Boats project. It's for another project that I'm also working on while things are at a stand still in working on the Auset Fronds. Making these boat models are actually helping me to find better ways to construct boats in the future. This model actually is turning out quite well. I'm trying not to rush the process even though I want everything completed yesterday. The goal is to be a master craftswoman in boat construction. That is to perfect my own designs. The good thing is I have a gallon of wood glue when I start putting on the deck. I have to make sure I don't waste any more glue like I've been doing. I Probably wouldn't have had to keep buying so much of it while  I was working on the boat. That's me working in haste when I'm  feeling impatient about my progress.

Closing Gaps!

I replaced the dried palm leaves with frond notched branches. The next step is to add thin layers of balsa wood which is very soft. The deck will be the only thing made using a different kind of material besides the "Noodles" which was added to give the boat more bouyancy. I brought a gallon of wood glue to construct the deck. Once the deck is built, then I can focus on preparing to test the boat to see how well it floats. Everything is coming  together but at a very slow crawl. For the past few months, circumstances brought the project to a full stop. I was able to do minor things to the boat, but that didn't include doing anymore work on the boat. Even with that being said, I really feel like I accomplished doing something in a big way. Pictures will be uploaded later on when possible.
